Bill Gates Warns Russia Against Competing with India in Software Business

Microsoft chief Bill Gates has cautioned Russia against competing with India in the software business stating that it might lose out due to high production costs. Bill Gates was in Moscow on Tuesday and Wednesday, meeting with the country's software developers and government officials.

Bill Gates warned Russian programmers against competing with their Indian counterparts, whose labor costs are much lower, Yuri Ammosov, a top official of the Russian Economy Ministry was quoted as saying by business daily 'Vedomosti'.

According to Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Sharonov, Bill Gates considers Russia a very large market along with India and China and is interested in promoting Microsoft products. Gates visited Russia to get information about the nation's innovations in the field of science, education and economy from original sources, the press secretary of Microsoft's Moscow office has told the press.

The Russian press was barred from Gates engagements in Moscow and the business daily quoted some of the officials who were present at the meeting.
