Maria Sharapova to Play for Russia For the First Time

According to the official statement of Russia`s tennis chief Maria Sharapova will play for Russia in next year Fed Cup, the Reuters news agency reported Tuesday.

It is the frist time Maria Sharapova will play for her country of origin to gain the Fed Cup title. Three other tennis-players of the Russian team are Nadia Petrova, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva who are all in the world's top eight now.

Maria Sharapova who is being world`s number two is very exited to present Russia in the Fed Cup. “Hopefully, myself and the team will put up a strong showing against Spain , who have a good team,” she said about their game against Spain in their World Group first-round tie in April.

Russia will try to regain the Fed Cup title they won in 2004 and 2005. This year they lost to Belgium in the quarter-finals.
