R u responsible for a Rape

Who is responsible for a Rape. R u the one

Some couple of days before a senior cleric of Australia named Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali has quoted that Women are responsible for Rape. According to Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali the problem lies in the Uncovered Meat in the women Body was the problem of Rape.

Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali has quoted that If a women is in her home, in her hijab then no problem would have occured. Well Lets Think with a open heart about Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali's comments. IS really a women is responsible for a RAPE which causes damages on both physically and mentally.

The Point which was argued by Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali has some meaning because a proactive dressings in public will make a persona vuealuneable. But it doesn't mean that the person who is not dressing very proactivly doesnot fall in the trap. When Contacted some Rapist in Delhi Tihar Jail Some criminals said that they choose a women who is wearing less amount of dresses and also a women whose dress can be undressed easily. By these words we can say that the dressings of a women do a major part of RAPE. Further more they added that even if the women is not a proctive dressed women, but if the women is weak and not having strength to fight against them then those women also fall in the trap of RAPE. Those Criminals said that, if the women tries to shout their first tactics is to show a weapon (mostly knife) and try to calm them.

But is that dress which Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali said is the cause of real problem. Not really, The dress acts 50% of a Rape Simulation and the remaining 50% is the criminal/ sexual mind which simulates the men to do the rape. Sometimes it goes to 20:80 % also which is where the dress code comes into picture. Then Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali said that if a women is in her home and in her Hijab then there will not be any problem. IS that is true?

As per a survey the domestic violence which is faced by women is higher than the Violence which they face when they go out to the world. In houses women face a lot of problems which are both sexually, physically, mentally. According to the splitups of the RAPE happened, it is found that mostly (78%) of Rape happening between the close relations in the houses. This figure can go high if we take count of all rape which are not reported to police. There was a recent incident in India where "Imrana was raped by her father in law. And the Clerics said that she cannot live with her husband since she was raped by her husband's father and she will be treated as a mother for his husband." How foolishness is this, Instead of punishing the father they are punishing daughter in law. Is father in law is outsider or a person who is inside the house.

In each community across the world, the same kind of domestic violence is happening. And Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali said that if we keep uncovered meat opened, and if the cat came and ate the meat then it is not the wrong of cat but the wrong of a women. Please clear this, when we are keeping a uncovered meat opened, if a cat is a well cultured and if it knows the values how the cat will come and smell the meat. Is your pet dog is eating the food of yours in your house because you kept it opened. No House dogs and trained dogs will do that wrong.

So WHo is the problem of Rape:

As per my consideration the responsibility lies equally between both sexes because without a small mislead both sexes cannot cross the limits. In western countries there is a lot of reports on "Date Rape" which is a girl getting raped when she is going for a dating with a guy. If we analyse the situation there may be a little clue of what triggered the Rape situation and what may have been done to avoid that. In India this is now becoming a big problem since e have reports on this type of rape. In this both victim and the accused iis known to each other. The situation created the problem.

If the girl is little bit cautious about her sourroundings this may not have happened. If the guy is little cautious about the values of the friendship/love of that Girl then this may have been avoided. Recently there was a report which involves Rakhi sawant and popular pop singer. When we saw the pictures of Rakhi sawant it was just a peice of cloth which was tied just by two knots near her breast. If we untie the knots then her dress will fall and she will be undressed. This kind of dresses will change a good mind to bad. We must know what to wear where. Yes there may be a little conditioned freedom is needed when we go to public because not all eyes and minds are same.

So what's your reply on this. Comment it

How did popcorn become a popular snack at movie theaters?

How did popcorn become a popular snack at movie theaters

No trip to the movies is complete without an overpriced tub of popcorn covered in goo. Good thing, 'cause popcorn sales are responsible for a substantial portion of theater profits.
To learn how the tradition began, we first consulted the Encyclopedia Popcornica. According to this industry-supported site, the salty snack was very popular "from the 1890s until the Great Depression." Even during the Depression, popcorn remained "one of the few luxuries down-and-out families could afford."

Kidz World writes that popcorn first became available at movie theaters way back in 1912. They don't explain why, but Buzzle.com came through with many kernels of truth (none of which remained unpopped).

Apparently back in the old days, popcorn vendors would "set up shop" outside theaters. The theater managers didn't like this, thinking it was a distraction. But moviegoers disagreed, frequently ducking out to buy popcorn and then ducking back in to see the movie.

As Buzzle further notes, "it wasn't long until the theatre owners realized they could set up their own popcorn popper." That's exactly what they did, and popcorn's been associated with movies ever since. Kind of like Cracker Jacks and baseball games or gruel and orphanages.

King Khan, a muse to many

King Khan, a muse to many

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has completed his autobiography, but with other books on the actor already out in the market, he says he is no hurry to get his published.

"My book is ready ... I have it in my computer," a daily quoted Shah Rukh as saying.

But added: "Other people have beaten me to it."

Shah Rukh's latest movie, Don, was released earlier this month to mixed reviews. He plays the character of a ruthless mafia Don. His Hindi-language film Paheli, was India's entry for the Oscar foreign film category last year.

He said he saw nothing special about turning 41 on November 2.

"Unlike last year, when I was tied down because of my back problem, this year I'm feeling much better. I am planning to sign more films than usual," he said.

The Bollywood star has delayed his trip to Australia because he wants to spend his birthday on Thursday with his family and friends. He said he worked about 18 hours a day. "If I had the power to change anything, I would add a few more extra hours in a day. I truly want more time," the daily quoted him as saying.

Shah Rukh also said he was not bothered about where he saw himself 10 years from now. "I only see one hour ahead. I don't think about the future.

For me, the magic lies in the moment," he said.

SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR HOMEGROWN SCIENTISTS

SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR INDIA's HOMEGROWN SCIENTISTS

G. Madhavan Nair
Hindustan Times

India's intellectual fire, masked during foreign rule, has started burning brighter and is now visible to the world community. The present century is going to be dominated by the knowledge society and having inherited great intellectual capabilities and wisdom, the new ambience augurs well for India to earn its rightful place in the world sooner than later.

India's post-independence achievements in science and technology are remarkable. The country has shown the world it can carry out cutting-edge technological research and development and achieve practical results that benefit the common man.

Above all, India is a leading country in harnessing advanced space technology for benefiting the common man. The national resource planning, utilisation for agriculture, forestry, fisheries etc, as well as reaching out to people in far flung places by providing tele-medicine and tele-education services are some of the finest examples of space applications.

The developments in the IT sector, enabling software specialists to take on the challenges of global community, and developments biotechnology are proof of the performance of our young scientists. India has shown to the world that it has totally indigenous technologies and skills on par with other developed countries. Focus on the youth The future of India is in the hands of its youth. It is expected that India will have the largest youth population in the world in the coming decades. If they are trained properly and equipped to take on the demands of the global community, India can become of the global leaders both in terms of technology and economic strength.

Bedi rips into team, Greg Chappell

Bedi rips into team, Chappell

Greg Chappell is in the eye of storm once again over his frequent experiments with the team. Former Indian Cricket team captain and legendary spinner Bishen Singh Bedi is the latest to join the chorus against the Australian. Not only did he disapprove of Chappell's scheme of things, he was critical of the team's performance at the Champions Trophy too.

Says Bedi, "We should wake up to the reality that whether it is in the sub-continent or anywhere else, we still have to deliver. This kind of experimentation must stop somewhere."

India's performance in one-dayers in the past few months has been a cause for worry. India lost the one-day series to West Indies 1-4, finished last in the tri-nation DLF Cup in Kuala Lumpur and have now failed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy at home.

"The question is can they afford to put principle before profit. That is somewhere our guys are lacking at the moment," says the former Indian captain. "That is what is causing a lot of us a lot of irritation and unhappiness. We are wondering why Chappell is there and why someone of Indian origin should not be."

Endless experimentation has made the Indian team look out of their depth in recent times and with the World Cup four months away, time is clearly running out for the team management to turn the men in blue into world beaters.

Indian shares sensex hit record 13,000

Indian shares hit an all-time high of 13,000 points Monday amid renewed confidence about the country's economy.

Blue chip companies such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries Limited led the advance.

The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-stock index rose 0.8 percent to reach 13,012.49 points. The market's previous all-time high 12,994.45 points came Oct. 17.

Analysts expected the Sensex to hold onto these levels with companies posting strong results during the current earnings season.

'I expect the Sensex to sustain above the 13,000 level over the next few weeks despite corrections in the interim, which may pull the index down below that level,'' said KRIS Capital director, Arun Kejriwal.

Among the gainers, Reliance Industries gained 1,232 rupees up 0.7 percent, while Bharti advanced 539 rupees up 2.2 percent.

The Sensex has already risen nearly 38.5 percent so far this year, having gained 42 percent in 2005 as foreign investors continued to invest in India's economic growth story.

Cryogenic stage tested successfully

Cryogenic stage tested successfully

A major milestone in our rocket system development, testing, says Madhavan Nair

  1. India, 6th to carry out test
  2. Engine produced thrust of 7.5 tonnes
  3. A fully indigenous effort

India became the sixth member of the exclusive club to have developed a cryogenic stage in rocketry when it successfully tested a full-fledged cryogenic stage for 50 seconds at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Mahendragiri in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening.

The engine in the stage produced a thrust of 7.5 tonnes. It was a fully indigenous effort.

The firing was done with the help of an advanced mission computer and the parameters of the test were monitored from a sophisticated control room.

A jubilant G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), told The Hindu from the test-site at Mahendragiri over phone, that "for the first time, a cryogenic stage was fired" in the country and the performance was "absolutely flawless."

He called it "a major milestone in our rocket system development and testing." "We are the sixth country in the world to have this status. Very few countries in the world have got such a capability."

The others who have so far used cryogenic stages in their rockets to put heavy satellites in orbit are the U.S., Russia, European Space Agency, China and Japan.

Full-duration test soon

The ISRO would go for a full-duration test of the indigenous cryogenic stage for 720 seconds at the LPSC in four weeks from now, Mr. Madhavan Nair said. "And we will take our own cryogenic stage in our GSLV flight next year." The four Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) flights from 2001 from Sriharikota had used cryogenic stages from Russia.

The GSLVs orbited satellites weighing around 2,000 kg.

Complex system

A cryogenic stage is "a very, very complex system" that entailed "synergy" from multi-disciplinary teams that developed sub-systems, electronic components, plumbing and so on, the ISRO Chairman said.

"A major effort"

B.N. Suresh, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, called the test a major effort.

"We have tested with the entire on-board equipment bay, which is going to be used in our GSLV flights," he said. (Equipment bay in a rocket, which houses the electronic systems, forms the brain of the vehicle).

"For the first time, we have used an advanced mission computer and this computer will be used in subsequent PSLV and GSLV flights," Dr. Suresh said. The results of the test were as per predictions. They "matched 1:1," he said.

R.V. Perumal, Director, LPSC, described it as "another march towards total indigenous capability in rocketry." Ten years of joint efforts of the LPSC, the VSSC and other ISRO units, he said, "had culminated in this test." "We are happy that after a long time, we have crossed this milestone."

A cryogenic engine uses liquid hydrogen at minus 260 degrees Celsius and liquid oxygen at minus 183 degrees Celsius. While liquid hydrogen is the fuel, liquid oxygen is the oxidiser.

A cryogenic stage used in flight will include the engine, propellant tanks, plumbing to ferry the cryogenic fluids to the engine, wiring, motor casing and so on.

Storing and pumping liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen calls for great expertise. At such low temperatures, metals become brittle.

So new welding techniques, new alloys and new types of lubricants were developed. Besides, liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen had to be pumped into the engine in the right proportion.

Qaum or country?

Qaum or country?

In 2005, Imrana Bibi of Charthawal village in UP was raped by her father-in-law. A year later, a Muzaffarnagar sessions court has now sentenced her rapist, Ali Mohamad to ten years in jail. In Charthawal village, the court judgement is more or less irrelevant. Neighbours say the rape incident was a property dispute. Others say Imrana was of loose character and even entertained her brother-in-law and still others allege that there was an inappropriate relationship between Imrana and her father in law. In the cacophony of voices the loudest voice in the Imrana case has been, as usual, the voice of the clergy. In 2005, the Deoband dar ul uloom said since Imrana had been raped by her father-in-law, she was now her husband's mother and could not return to her husband. Today, some clerics still say that a raped woman is a criminal, she is haraam, and cannot under any circumstances return to her husband. And there is no one to oppose this ridiculous pronouncement.

The stranglehold of the Islamic clergy on the Muslim population remains one of the persistent reasons why the liberal, thinking educated Muslim seems to have no future within his own community. The helplessness of the liberal Muslim, caught between a backward looking clergy and sections of Hindu opinion descending into vicious prejudice is a tragedy for inter-community relations.

Ten years ago when Mushir ul Hasan was professor of History at Jamia Milia Islamia he made the mistake of saying that although he thought Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses offensive yet at the same time he didn't think the book should be banned. Jamia at that time erupted in violent protest and one of the student leaders even said that "rivers of blood will flow if Hasan dares to enter the campus." Even Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Naib Imam of Jama Masjid said secularism does not mean that you can insult the Prophet. At that time Mushir-ul-Hasan's position within the Muslim community reflected how difficult it was for Muslims to show any form of public dissent towards current interpretations of Islam. Today, in the context of the politics of revenge, the rising numbers of young men who have given up on India and opted for "aazadi", the demagogues who take to the streets to whip mob fury against cartoons by a Danish newspaper, those Muslims who argue for democracy and secularism, seems to be yelled out of the arena on the charge that they are not "Muslim enough." The liberal Muslim is heard in educated circles, his thoughts are echoed in editorial page columns and television studios, but he is simply irrelevant on the Muslim street. The Muslim equivalent of a Laloo or a Mulayam or a Mayawati, the plebian electorally powerful opponents of orthodox religion are absent among the Muslims.

By contrast, for the moment at least, the liberal Hindu has defeated the orthodox Hindu. The communalists in the Hindu community have been laughed out of the arena by a powerful lobby of "pseudo secularists" who have mounted a challenge to the voices of Praveen Togadia or Acharya Giriraj Kishore. Sure Narendra Modi continues as chief minister of Gujarat but the BJP's defeat in the 2004 general elections was to some extent a slap in the face for the politics of hate that the BJP was trying to use for electoral gain, in fact the Gujarat riots of 2002 became a horrible illustration of the failures of the BJP government both in the eyes of the Muslims and Hindus. The chief enemies of Hindutva have been Hindus themselves, those who have insisted that it was impossible to link Hinduism with hatred and terrorism.

By contrast, the voices within the Muslim community which insist that Islam should have nothing do with hatred, terrorism or backward laws, still find themselves marginalised. The All India Muslim Personal law Board hedges, it hums and haws, it refuses to withdraw grotesque injustices like the triple talaq. It still uses language such as a woman should be "obedient" and be allowed to return to her husband's family. It has still not been able to prevent multiple marriages or the marriage of minors. Poor destitute Muslim woman suffer daily at the hands of regressive laws, yet the Muslim cultural elite hesitantly speak up against the clerics who hand out these laws for fear that it may damage their identity as "Muslims." At this point in time, the liberal and democratic Muslim is not seen to be confident enough to want to be heard, nor raise his voice, nor step out of the comfort of the elite cocoon and into the maidan of public opinion. While the liberal Hindu has actually managed to create a public constituency, has managed to make himself publicly relevant, the liberal Muslim has been unable to speak a language that strikes a chord with the wider community and been unable to be popular within his own community.

When it came to the singing of Vande Mataram, why did even modern educated individuals like Asaduddin Owaisi of the All India Majlis Ittehad-ul Muslimeen felt compel to loudly argue that he would never sing the said song? When a faraway Danish newspaper published offensive cartoons, was there any need for the leaders of the agitation to launch a demonstration of mob fury similar to the worst types of Hindu mob fury? How then is the Muslim mob any different from the Hindu mob? Where instead were the voices that could have enlightened us on the magnificent democratic traditions of Islam and its humanity and rationality? The liberal Muslim exists but is somehow fearful to frontally challenge those who claim to speak on his behalf. How much safer to always bash that very eminently bash-able entity: the media. Attack the media and then the prickly battle of actually creating a new anti-orthodox identity is safely and comfortingly postponed.

Today communalism is becoming horrendously pervasive. It is a slap in the face of our constitution that Muslims are so terribly represented in organizations like RAW, CBI, IB and SPG.There is not a single Muslim officer in RW and SPG, while the IB has two and CBI has only one Muslim officer. According to the 2001 census only 55 per cent Muslim males are literate, the condition of Muslim women is far worse. The systematic, violent and silent persecution of Muslims in today's India is also an inescapable reality, it is a community that lives in fear of being ostracized, injured and humiliated at every turn. It is precisely in this situation that it becomes crucial to find the bridge builders, the negotiators and the true leaders.

Today the vulnerabilities of the Muslims are such that slogans of Islam in danger are far more evocative than slogans like Hindu Muslim bhai bhai. Yet India needs Muslim voices that can ring out as loudly against the clerics as loudly as the Hindu voice rang out against the VHP. We need a Muslim voice that can move beyond the trap of victimhood and the constant blame game and actually harness the positive energies of the community into a new optimistic partnership with Hindus. The language of hatred and elitism must be junked. Instead the liberal Muslim identity must strive for relevance in the public space and try to find a public anti-orthodox constituency just as the liberal Hindu has been able to do.

Moderate quake jolts Italy

Moderate quake jolts Italy

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted southern Italy, causing panic but no injuries among the population. The quake, the epicentre of which was located some 200 km deep below the Mediterranean Sea, was felt Thursday in several Italian regions, including Sicily and Calabria.

Described as the area's strongest quake in 30 years, it prompted people to rush out of their homes and into the streets. No major damage or injuries were reported, however.Experts ruled out any relation between the quake and Etna, an active volcano in Sicily, which has been erupting for the past weeks.

"This afternoon's earthquake, between Sicily and Calabria, took place in a well-identified area," said Enzo Boschi of Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology. "The deeper the epicentre, the wider the shock wave is felt on the surface. But these kinds of earthquakes don't generally produce major damages," Boschi said.

Earthquakes measuring between 5.0 and 5.9 on the Richter scale are considered "moderate" by experts. They can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings or slight damage to well-designed buildings. In 1997, a similarly strong quake caused serious damages to the central Italian regions of Umbria and Marche.

Rajinikanth highest paid actor in India

Rajinikanth highest paid actor in India

tamil cinema movies news rajinikanthRajiniKanth, the super star of Tamil Cinema is the highest paid actor in India and second Highest paid Flim actor next to Jackie chan. Recently Hirthik is paid 10 Crore for a flim (30 crore for 3 flims) from adlabs. Even though the Bollywood stars Payment seem a laugh if we see the payment of South indian especially Tamil flim industry stars.

Rajinikanth is paid more than what khans or Amitabh bachan is paid. Every new flim of Rajinikanth is breaking/ setting a new record in flim Industry, which is making him a highest paid Tamil cinema flim actor and Hidhest paid Indian Actor. For rajinikanth's new flim Sivaji (the Boss) he is getting paid of sum Rs 16 crore. This is an amount which is more than what rajinikanth recieved for his earlier flim Chandramuki.

rajinikanth movie sivaji shivajiThis payment of Tamil Cinema Industry is mind blogging for outsiders and Bolloywood biggies like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh khan and Salman Khan. They Don't even earn 7 crore each for a flim, but their flims are distributed All over the world. recently Don which was acted by Shah Rukh khan has earned USD 800000 in US and USD 500000 in Uk. But their salary is 7 Crore. But Rajnikanth movies are released in South India and some Countries where tamil people lives.

Recently Rajinikanth Tapped a market which is very busy in work. Now the new market is converting itself from busy work to entertainment. The new market has no tamil speaking people rather they speak Japanese. There is a record break for a South Indian movie ran five continous years.

But those who produce Rajinikanth's flims say Rajinikanth is worth the price. Chandramukhi, Rajni's last film, earned Rs 50 crore at the box office, which is a record in Tamil Nadu. All Producers will be happy to do flim with Rajinikanth because they quote that "We make enough money on a Rajni film. So much so that we can make another film. So we don't have any problems paying him this much,"

RajiniKanth ChandraMukiThe Win run of Rajinikanth's flims seems to be unchecked. At Age 56 he is still on the Race where the youngsters are dominating the tamil flim industry. There was only one non record setter which was before four years Baba which by Rajni standards was a flop. It earned only Rs 20 crore.

After Baba, Rajinikanth faced lot of criticism from both flim industry and also political industry but he bounced back with his style in Chandramuki which was orginally a Malayalam movie. After Chandramuki Rajinikanth decided to cut the number of movies (already one per two years) but rajinikanth's fans are exepecting a change in mind.

The upcoming movie Shivaji is directed by Shankar, the hottest director of Tamil Flim Industry, and produced by AVM one of the biggest producers of Tamil flim industry. Being Shankar's flim it is been shot for year now."Rajni is always afraid whether the director should be able to present him in the way the masses like him. So Rajnikant himself controls the script and directs the film to a large extent," said Sreedhar Pillai, a film critic. Rajinikanth works only with the Biggest and the Bust in Flim Industry, this is also a reason of his run. "When we sign him on, we are able to cover all expenses. When I met Rajnikanth, I gave him Rs 1,001 as advance. I said I will pay your salary in a few days and he said he will take his payments later after the film's completed," said A V M Saravanan, Producer, Sivaji.

One of the reasons for Rajnikanth's skyrocketing rates is that he is Tamil flim industrie's lone superstar after MGR, while four to five big heroes rule Bollywood. Realities that even his co-actors accept. "Finally Rajnikant stands on top. In the film, Jyothika's done a great job. I had a good role. Vidyasagar gave very good music. But finally it was a Rajni starrer. We were all there, but it was a success because Rajni was there. You need a Rajni for that," said Prabhu, Co-star, Chandramukhi.

Brangelina´s illegal landing under probe

Brangelina's illegal landing under probe

Bradd Pitt Angelina JolieHollywood's superstar couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, currently in India to shoot for a movie based on the life of slain US journalist Daniel Pearl, have landed themselves in trouble - literally.

A chopper carrying Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie landed at the Umed Bhawan Palace Hotel premises in Jodhpur without prior permission and has ended up ruffling the feathers of the city's airport authorities, official sources said.

Additional district magistrate Bhura Ram Delu said it appears that the Jagson Airlines helicopter had landed at Umed Bhawan - the palace resort owned by former ruler Gaj Singh - on October 20 evening under the pretext of an emergency landing. The district administration was not informed about it by either the airlines or by the Jodhpur Air Traffic Control (ATC), which is controlled by the Indian Air Force.

"After speaking with the Umed Bhawan Palace management, the district administration would now ask Jodhpur's air traffic control for its report," Delu said, adding that Jagson Airlines did not take the necessary permission for landing the helicopter in a public or private property.

Private institutions Agree to OBC Quota

Private institutions Agree to OBC Quota

The Quota Problem back to the center stage. Now it is not in Goverment Aided Colleges but in private Educational institutions. HRD Minister Arjun Singh launched phase two of his plans in reservation for OBC people in education.

A Changed statergy on reservations in private colleges is yealing fruits for him unlike what Arjun singh faced when he proposed for Goverment aided institutions. During the meeting with vice chancellors of private institutions, some like Symbiosis and Manipal institute of technology have all agreed to reservations in private higher education institutions.

HRD Minister Arjun Singh says, "All Vice chancellors unanimously agreed (if one agree as per him everone agrees) that there should be reservation in the institutions for SC/ST and OBCs."

But it's a clear departure from the approach taken by the HRD ministry earlier this year when it drafted the Bill for reserving seats in government-aided institutes. This time for private institutes wider consultations are being held. But some issues remain unresolved. First is the regulation of fee. Private institutes do want general category students to be burdened with the fee exemptions proposed for reserved category.

There are differences over setting up of a central regulatory authority for regulating to oversee the quota law and whether these institutes will get some aid from the centre for the implementation. Manipal Academy of Higher Education Professor VC H S Ballal says, "We are going to increase the number of seats to compensate for this reservation. All those discussions have taken place. "

A group of ministers headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is looking into the Bill to reserve seats in unaided private institutes. If cleared by the Cabinet it could be introduced in the Winter Session of Parliament.

After the major downfall of Ajith's tirupathi by its director..per ..per ..perarasu....he was thinking who could he terminate next and ..yes....he got our captain and that's the evolution of a legendary universal(tamil) film "DHARMAPURI"...

Precautionary steps to watch this film:

  1. Four pieces of cotton...(2 to keep in ears...and the rest 2 will be kept in our noses after we watch the film fully)
  2. zandu balm, tiger balm..if possible original time bomb.
  3. itch guard (b'cos paadhi padam paarthu namaku udambellam pull'arikum').

Actors:
Captain Vijaykanth(3/4 screen...),Heroine-achacho paavam(not even 4 scenes including songs),comedy..all scenes where captain comes becomes comedy to the core.
All other vetti actors(donno what they do ½ time).

Moments of the film:
1.Captain's intro:----- NO ever Indian..oops..hollywood film could ever try such imagination to project his hero to this level as perarasu does.(u deserve an applause..).while all his partymen, first bench fans, wait for his entry in screen..there comes captain vijayakanth to save a minister's girl from a rowdy in rameswaram..rowdy threatens everyone including policemen nearby with his gun and no one goes near him(obvious..) captain vijayakanth looks at him, goes near him barehanded. The rowdy warns him 3 times(Indian cinema rule..not more than 3) and then shoots at him..the bullet hits captain vijayakanth's chest... and reflects back and hits the rowdy's chest and kills him...Please wait... don't get astonished.then he takes out the "archani plate" which captain vijayakanth hids in his shirt(what a archanai thattu.. if u can get for 10 rs.it acts as bullet proof and cd save ur life).

Advice to all military forces:please dismantle all ur bullet proof shields and get archanai thattu's for them. cost cutting one.

2.most of the film people are doing silly things and no body including captain vijayakanth doesn't understands why they r doing such thing.if time permits captain gets his costume change and start performing exercises..iam sorry..dances.. and 30 to 40 dancers surround him and shout "neenga thaan nallavar, neenga thaan vallavar, neenga naaliku CM, morningna AM,eveningna PM"... happa horrible torture and where on earth his costumes are picked up... fluorescent coloured shirt specially and he makes to a point that in all scenes including his duet or romantic scene his party's "flaming torch" symbol is projected well. And a grand make up like rajkiran with a big crown on his head and sandal on his body(weak hearted people pls omit the scene)

3. Half the film is like assembly meetings and virudhachalam campaign speeches.and everybody including the villain praises captain vijayakanth .
"naan adangi poravan illai adakitu poravan"
"ivaru kootani vaika maatar, thani aala thaan irupaar"
"ennai nambuna nambikai..mathavangalukku etcharikai"
ivar naadodi illai....naadodi mannan"..

When u atleast have the peace that the director Perarasu didn't act in this film as he did in tirupathi....after interval even that dream goes crashed..oops.here we have his entry as "Speed"lawyer perarasu.he comes and says"naan porandha edam sivakasi, valarandha idam tirupachi, pona idam tirupathi, ipo nikaradhu dharmapuri"innum neraya idam poven....(oh god we are done for...mokkanayakanur,paanaampati,paradesipalayam..lots to come ). Soon he will become best competitor of T rajendhar.

Note:- don't miss the scene where captain vijayakanth hits 50 men in a row with a single kick which even matrix Keanu reaves couldn't get it right. And also the scene where captain blasts 1000 figure bombs(kanni vedi.he..he) with his small remote control which we use for MP3 players in car's.(technology drives...)

Iam sorry guys(?????)I didn't see the climax, I came away ½ hr before climax as I was in a mood to hit my head somewhere and cry badly seeing this.

Last but not least "Dharma puri"---poisonous pani puri. Die another day

Australian Muslim cleric blames women for rape

Australian Muslim cleric blames women for rape

Australia's most senior Islamic cleric has set off a firestorm of controversy after comparing women without headscarves to "uncovered meat" inviting sexual assault, comments that he has since apologized for. "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside ... without cover, and the cats come to eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats' or the uncovered meat's?" Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali was quoted as saying in a sermon to some 500 worshippers in Sydney last month.

"The uncovered meat is the problem," he was quoted as saying in The Australian newspaper.

"If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred," he said, referring to the headdress worn by some Muslim women. Hilali also criticized women who "sway suggestively" and wear cosmetic makeup, implying they attracted sexual attack. "Then you get a judge without mercy... and gives you 65 years," he added. Amid calls for his resignation after the newspaper published his remarks, Hilali denied he was condoning rape in his sermon.

In a statement released Thursday, Hilali apologized to women he had offended. "I had only intended to protect women's honour, something lost in The Australian presentation of my talk," he said. He also said in the statement that he was shocked by the reaction. "The presentation related to religious teachings on modesty and not to go to extremes in enticements, this does not condone rape, I condemn rape," he said in a statement published by The Australian newspaper.

"Women in our Australian society have the freedom and right to dress as they choose, the duty of man is to avert his glance or walk away," he said. The cleric's comments hit a nerve in both political officials and other Muslim leaders. Prime Minister John Howard called the remarks "appalling and reprehensible." "The idea that women are to blame for rapes is preposterous," Howard said. Australia's Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pru Goward said the nation's Muslims should force him to resign.

"This is inciting young men to a violent crime because it is the woman's fault," Goward told television's Nine Network. "It is time the Islamic community did more than say they were horrified. I think it is time he left." The leader of Australia's largest Islamic organization also threatened to bar the cleric from teaching at Lakemba Mosque in Western Sydney. "The board (of the LMA) has unlimited powers in respect of his teachings in the mosque. We can do anything that's required to prevent him from teaching in our mosque. If you haven't got the backing of Australia's largest and most established Islamic organization then you are out on a limb," Tom Zreika, president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, which owns the mosque, is quoted as saying in the newspaper.

But Zreika also said the LMA had yet to fully review the comments and that the cleric should be offered the benefit of the doubt until his wrongdoing was proven. The Egyptian-born Hilali is the top cleric at Sydney's largest mosque, and is considered the most senior Islamic leader by many Muslims in Australia and New Zealand. In the past, he has served as an adviser to the Australian government on Muslim issues. Hilali is no stranger to controversy. He was accused of praising suicide bombers in 2004 after saying in a sermon that the Sept. 11 attacks were "God's work against the oppressors."

He later said that he did not mean that he supported either the attacks or terrorism. Relations between Australia's nearly 300,000 Muslims and the majority Christian-heritage population are tense following racial riots last December that often pitted white gangs against youths of Middle Eastern decent. Observers say the cleric's comments were seen as particularly insensitive because Sydney was the scene in 2000 of a series of gang rapes by a group pf Lebanese Australian youths who targeted young non-Muslim women.

Govt serious about live-in relations

Govt serious about live-in relations

New Delhi: For couples like Amrita and Vineet, living together is serious business. And now the Government too has realised that it is indeed a serious affair - be it a marriage or a live-in relationship.

Starting Thursday, when the law for the protection of women from domestic violence comes into force, it will extend equal benefit to women in live-in relationships as it will to married women. In other words, this means an official recognition to live-in relationships.

Under the new proposal, the Government has defined violence against women in such a way that it makes no distinction between a woman who is married and one who is in a live-in relationship.

The law is not just about domestic violence. It's a paradigm shift in the way the state has looked at the man-woman relationship.

Accordingly, from now on there will be stringent provisions for violence against women, whether within a marriage or a live-in relationship; verbal abuse and wife bashing will be considered an offence which may invite penal provision of one year in jail and Rs 20,000 fine and, over and above of all this, none of these offences will be bailable.

It's a proposal that will provide a relief to all women who may have suffererd from domestic violence. But at the same time, it might throw up some questions related to morality.

"Even in the past, the Supreme Court held live-in relationship as legal. But we are not getting into the moral part of it. We will just look at the legal part," Union Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary, observes.

Happy Birthday Picasso

Happy Birthday Picasso

PabloPicasso150_afp As Spain celebrates the 125th birth anniversary of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Wednesday, nobody questions that he was one of the greatest artists of all time. Picasso took such adulation for granted. But few remember that Picasso's works continued sparking scandals till his death.

Many of the people queuing up at anniversary exhibitions in Spain, France, the US, Austria or Germany this year would no doubt be reluctant to admit that often, in fact, they do not understand the master's Cubist paintings. There is, in any case, no question that the painter born in the southern Spanish city of Malaga revolutionised the world of art. He may later be remembered as "the great gravedigger of art or as its great fertilizer," Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa writes.

Picasso's prodigious talent was evident from the beginning. His art teacher father had nothing more to give to his young son. When Pablo was 14, the family moved to the artistically vibrant Barcelona where the boy began art studies. In 1897, Picasso was admitted to Madrid's Academy of Fine Arts at the young age of 16 years.

In 1904, he moved to Paris where, three years later, he painted 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon,' a key work in the development of Cubism. For Picasso, life was an endless source of inspiration and experimentation, where he picked the women, harlequins, minotaurs, bullfighters, animals and children who populate his paintings.

He left behind no less than some 1,900 paintings, 3,200 pieces of ceramics, 7,000 drawings, 1,200 sculptures and 30,000 graphic works.

Abu Salem The name of extradited underworld gangster Abu Salem is not on the voter's list of Mubarakpur constituency, from where he wanted to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh legislative polls, official sources said.

Singh said that he could approach the court to get Abu Salem's name included in the voter's list.Abu Salem, who hails from the Sarai Meer locality of Azamgarh, moved to Mumbai in the early 1990s, where he soon joined and moved up the ranks in the underworld network of Dawood Ibrahim. Internet Explorer Vs. Firefox

Internet Explorer Vs. Firefox: The Battle Heats Up

As Mozilla and Microsoft toss major new releases of their browsers out to the public, we help you keep track of their ups and downs through our features, reviews, and blogs.

firefox The two competitors enter the ring. The crowd is hushed. The referee goes over the rules -- oops, sorry, there are no rules. The bell rings and the two combatants -- Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7 -- begin their battle for the hearts and minds of the Web browsing public

Okay, the whole boxing match thing is pretty much a cliche. But how can you resist when you're talking about such two obvious combatants as Firefox and IE? It's hardly a secret that this pair of browsers is in nose-to-nose competition -- and neither is going to give an inch. And while there are a few other contenders out there (check out Browser Wars: The Saga Continues), these are the two that everyone is watching.

For a while, Firefox looked like it could actually make a major dent in what almost amounted to a Microsoft monopoly -- its innovative (although not original) tabbed browsing, straightforward interface, and its vast library of extensions (offering users the opportunity to configure their browsers exactly the way they liked it) made Firefox the Web equivalent of a folk hero. Perhaps because of this achievement, the much heralded version 2.0 offers a few major tweaks, but on the whole, doesn't mess with success.

Internet Explorer And while Mozilla's Firefox has garnered a great deal of popular fanfare and a loyal coterie of followers, Microsoft's IE7 shows that it still hasn't thrown in the towel. Not only is Internet Explorer still the chosen browser for most businesses, but Redmond's programmers seem to have taken a hint from their rival's popularity and added a number of clever -- if not innovative -- features.

IE7 now has tabbing, improved security, better RSS functionality, a bright new interface, and an upgraded search. It still doesn't offer extensions and similar add-ons, but it does offer smooth integration with all of Microsoft's other products -- which is a very important feature as far as businesses are concerned. (It also has the advantage of being an automatic upgrade -- unless they block it, most IE6 users are going to become IE7 users whether they planned to or not.)

We've been covering the clash of these two titans for some time now. So, for those who want to follow the ongoing battle, we've compiled an ongoing listing of reviews, features, and blog posts examining how these two browsers have been developed, changed, hyped, and released.

Sehwag´s bat fails to fire again

Sehwag's bat fails to fire again

Virender Sehwag vice captain of Indian Cricket Team got out cheaply twice during an Indian cricket team practice match in Ahmedabad on Monday ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy encounter against West Indies on Thursday. Virender Sehwag, who had a short stint at the nets on Sunday, seemed ill at ease during his stay in the middle and fell first to pacer Munaf Patel by giving a catch behind the wicket.

The Delhi batsman, playing for the Indian A cricket team, was sent in again a little later, but his second knock was also unproductive as he edged Harbhajan Singh to slip.Though the team management did not disclose Virender Sehwag's scores, sources put his contribution at three and five.

In fact, the Indian vice-captain's frustration showed as he threw his bat to the ground after getting out a second time.Apart from Sehwag, two other India A batsmen -- Yuvraj Singh and Mohammed Kaif -- got to bat twice as coach Greg Chappell seemed intent on giving batting practice to his players.

However, the handful of spectators at the B ground of the Motera Stadium were treated to some late Diwali fireworks by MS Dhoni (38) who hit some lusty shots, while Ajit Agarkar remained unbeaen on 26.With Patel (3/18), Harbhajan Singh (2/23) and Suresh Raina (2/18) picking up wickets at regular intervals, India A were skittled out for 111 in 25 overs.

In reply, India B rode on some fluent batting from Sachin Tendulkar (43 retired), Rahul Dravid (42 retired) and Dinesh Mongia (26) to reach 137 for 1 in their alloted 25 overs. Raina was the only man out.

Heavy mobile use damages sperm

Heavy mobile use damages sperm

Heavy use of mobile phones may damage men's fertility, a study has suggested

Researchers found those men who used a phone for four hours or more a day had fewer sperm and those they had moved less well and were of poorer quality. The Ohio study involving 364 men was presented to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in New Orleans.

But a UK expert said it was unlikely the phones were to blame, as they were in use and not near the testes, and it may be being sedentary was the cause. The team from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio tested the sperm of 364 men who were being treated at fertility clinics in Mumbai, India, with their partners.

It was found that the heaviest users, those who used their phones for more than four hours a day had the lowest average sperm counts, at 50 million per millilitre (ml) and the least healthy sperm.

Men who used their phones for between two and four hours a day averaged sperm counts of 69 million per ml and had moderately healthy sperm. Those who said they did not use mobile phones at all had the highest average sperm counts, of 86 million per ml, and their sperm was of the highest quality seen.

Used without thinking twice

Dr Ashok Agarwal, who led the research, told the New Orleans conference the study did not prove mobiles damaged fertility, but said it showed more research was warranted. "There was a significant decrease in the most important measures of sperm health and that should definitely be reflected in a decrease in fertility, which is seen worldwide.

"People use mobile phones without thinking twice what the consequences might be. "It is just like using a toothbrush, but mobiles could be having a devastating effect on fertility. "It still has to be proved, but it could be having a huge impact because mobiles are so much part of lives."

He suggested radiation from mobile phones might harm sperm by damaging DNA, affecting the cells in the testes which produce testosterone or the tubes where sperm is produced. But a British expert cast doubt on the suggested link between mobile phone use and infertility in the men studied. Dr Allan Pacey, senior lecturer in andrology at the University of Sheffield, said: "This is a good study, but I don't think it tackles the issue.

"If you're using your phone for four hours a day, presumably it is out of your pocket for longer. "That raises a big question: how is it that testicular damage is supposed to be occur?" Dr Pacey, who is honorary secretary of the British Fertility Society, added: "If you are holding it up to your head to speak a lot, it makes no sense that it is having a direct effect on your testes." He added that people who use phones for longer might be more sedentary, more stressed or eat more junk food, which might be more likely explanations for the link found in the study.

Moderate earthquake jolts Indonesia

Moderate earthquake jolts Indonesia

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck central Indonesia on Monday, but there were no reports of damage or injuries, a meteorological agency said.

The moderate quake struck near Sangihe island, around 350 km northeast of North Sulawesi province, according to the US Geological Survey's website. The quake struck at 7:19 a.m. at a depth of 27 km beneath the seabed.

Monday's earthquake was the latest in a series to strike Indonesia in recent months. On July 17, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami that hit the southern coast of Java, leaving more than 600 people dead and thousands homeless. On May 27, a strong 6.3-quake struck the Central Java cultural city of Yogyakarta and nearby areas, killing nearly 6,000 people.

On December 2004, a 9.0 quake generated a tsunami that left some 177,000 people dead or missing in Aceh province, on the northern end of Sumatra. Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago nation, located in the Pacific volcanic belt known as the "Ring of Fire", where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are commonplace.

Firefox 2.0 Scheduled For Release on Tuesday

Firefox 2.0 Scheduled For Release on Tuesday

The Mozilla Foundation will release the Firefox 2.0 browser on Tuesday, according to a posting on the Mozillazine message boards over the weekend

The new release promises several new features, as well as a solution to a annoying memory leak that has troubled earlier versions, according to Mozilla.

At press time, a leaked and/or mirrored version of the browser was available on Oregon State University's FTP server. (U.S. Windows 32-bit version; all other versions). At press time, that release had not been confirmed as official, however.

Mozilla representatives did not return an emailed request for comment at press time. The Mozilla Foundation refers users to the Mozillazine site as an open-source repository for support questions; a moderator for the forum posted the notice on Saturday.

Other features of the new browser revision include phishing protection, which reports if a web site may be malicious; session saving, which restores windows or Firefox tabs if the browser crashes; improved access to Web feeds; spell checking; and search suggestions.

The browser will still run on Windows 98, according to Mozilla. The Mozillazine moderator also added a final tip to "solve" one of the browser's new features: a "close" button that has been added to each tab. Since the button can take up valuable space in a browser full of tabs, users can force the browser into reducing the number of "close" buttons to just one by typing "about:config" (no quotes) in the address bar, pressing enter, and setting the "browser.tabs.closeButtons" option to "3".

Manisha Koirala gave Supari to Abu Salem

Manisha Koirala gave Supari to Salem

manisha-koirala Gangster Abu Salem's reported 'confession' during his brain-mapping and narco tests that he was given a 'supari' by actress Manisha Koirala to kill her secretary Ajit Dewani has set Bollywood and the media world abuzz.

Sources told that Salem had indeed named the actress. However, Jai Jeet Singh, additional commissioner of the anti-terrorist squad, has roundly rubbished the reports. "This is just speculation," he asserted. "The forensic report is with me in a sealed envelope. Nobody knows its contents. I would just say that the news is false."

According to TV reports, Salem confessed that he had killed Dewani after being "approached" by Koirala who had had a dispute with her secretary. Bollywood sources said that Manisha and Dewani used to quarrel over money, but that their dispute was sorted out in the presence of a producer much before Dewani's murder in June 2001 by two Salem shooters.

Koirala is in Australia and was unavailable for comment. Her secretary, Michael Thapa, said he was having difficulty contacting her. Narco and brain-mapping tests have no evidentiary value, but are used by the police to aid investigations. A senior ATS officer said the cops were investigating only the Pradeep Jain murder case, as per the assurance given to Portugal.

However, the ATS can pass on the narco analysis report to the crime branch, which is probing the Dewani case. "It does not serve anyone if such sensitive information is prematurely publicised," said advocate Majeed Memon. "What Salem is said to have stated in the test is only information in the eyes of the law, and must be verified."

can Dawood be prime minister of india

Can Dawood Ibrahim become Prime minister.

Can Dawood Ibrahim become prime minister of India in the name of constitutional rights. Dawood Ibrahim, a terrorist who was the master mind of 93 mumbai bomb blast and one of the international wanted person who is residing in pakistan, Karachi precisely (Pakistan denied that report) and a national terror can able to become Prime minister of India in the name of his citizenship and constitunal rights bound with that citizenship.

According to my old post regarding Abu salem who is another keypin of lot of blasts in India and one of the main hands of Dawood Ibrahim has decided to stand in the UP election as a candidate. This news may just look like fun when we read but if we think about the future about the election the bad powers are gaining more and more power in the name of democracy. Yes Abu salem has rights to stand in the constinucy of UP State but he is one of the most terrorised persons from Mumbai underworld and the D Company.

Bringing abu salem from portugal took more than 7 years after a words from goverment regarding his Death statement (Portugal is against death statements). Now he is standing as a candidate in the election in UP State. What will run in other candidate minds. Whether their security over life is not threatened just by his presence. What about voter's minds and theiir lifes. Is he is not threatening the people to cast the vote for him. What if he is winning the election. What about the state assambly. A terrorist is entering into a holy place where the rules of the state and the activities of state is happening.

There may be a lot of people who had done crimes may sit in the chairs but a terrorist like abu salem is not acceptable. IF we speak this some people mightbe saying that it may be like blocking the constituanal rights of abu salem. Yes we are blocking some fundamental rights of a person but, who is that person? What is his background? What was he doing before. If we search answers for this it gives an answer like below..

He is Abu Salem a terrorist who is wanted by many countries
His background is filled with guns and bombs to blast other innocent persons
His job is to kill people and terrorise the people for money.

Can a person like this is allowed to stand for elections. First and most important question is, what is the use of him now for India. Is he allowed for living. I strongly prefer an encounter (not new for mumbai police or tamil nadu police) Just make him escape and shoot him and close the file as encounter. He is not needed any more.

If we allow abu salem to stand in elections we are setting a wrong example about the candidate who are standing in elections. We are setting a way to Dawood Ibrahim to become the prime minister of India. A wanted criminal in many countries is a prime minister of a great democratic Country. My Fellow citizens It is time to change the rules which we crafted before 50 years. Some portions of the constitutional must be changed and we need to define the qualities of people who can serve country and state.

My Rules are below

Must be below 53 Years old (they need to retire at 58 years)

Must not be on jail not even for a day
Must have a clear vision about politics
Must not be a single minded person
Must be a proper income tax payer
Must not have any income tax pending status

Abu Salem to contest UP Assembly elections

Abu Salem to contest UP Assembly elections

Extradited gangster Abu Salem, who is cooling his heels in the central prison in Mumbai, has decided to contest the upcoming UP Assembly elections from the Mubarakpur constituency as an Independent, his lawyer Ashok Sarogi said on Sunday.
Nearly 20,000 posters and banners of the Gandhi topi and kurta clad don have been put up across the Western UP constituency wishing the people for Id and Diwali as part of a "goodwill-cum-sympathy" campaign for the gangster, Sarogi told PTI in Mumbai.

He claimed that the local unit of the Shiv Sena has already announced support for Salem. He said talks were on with some other political parties for support, but he did not name them.

"Star value is very important in Uttar Pradesh. Bollywood actors and starlets will also be campaigning for Salem though it is premature to reveal their names now. But all of them will be present-day stars and not from yesteryears," Sarogi claimed.

Salem's family members will be managing the campaign for the don, who is currently in high-security Arthur Jail in Mumbai.

Salem was extradited from Portugal in November 2005 and booked in eight cases, including the 1993 bomb blasts and the murders of builder Pradeep Jain and Ajit Dewani, former secretary of actress Manisha Koirala.

Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj nominated for ICC awards

Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj nominated for ICC awards

Captain Rahul Dravid and left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh are the two Indians left in the fray after shortlisting of players for the ICC's annual awards, to be announced on November 3. Rahul Dravid, winner of Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year awards in 2004, is in the running for the Captain of the Year honour while Yuvraj, scorer of 1,496 runs in the period under consideration for the awards, is in contention for the ODI Player of the Year award.

While Rahul Dravid, who was in the long list of nominees for Test and ODI Cricketer of the Year as well as Cricketer of the Year awards, compatriot Irfan Pathan was in the first list for ODI player of the Year along with Yuvraj.

Rahul Dravid has been omitted for other three awards while Pathan has been ignored for the ODI Player of the Year.

However, India is in the fray for the Spirit of Cricket award while Anjum Chopra is vying for honours in Woman Cricketer of the Year category.

Young Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif, who recently tested positive for a banned drug, was one of the four players named for ICC's Emerging Player of the Year award.

Asif and fellow-pacer Shoaib Akhtar had tested positive for performance-enhancing drug nandrolone and were pulled out of Pakistan squad participating in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

The drug-tainted bowlers face a ban upto two years under the World Anti-Doping Code, to which the ICC and its members are signatories.

The ICC's shortlist of players and teams for eight categories of awards, including one for women, was announced at a press conference in Mumbai by its Chief Executive Malcolm Speed.

Speed clarified that Asif earned the nomination as he had not tested positive for any banned substance during the period taken into consideration -- Aug 1, 2005 to Aug 8, 2006.

"Asif is eligible for the award as the period under consideration for the awards was before the doping offence. The Pakistan Cricket Board has already conducted a hearing and we have been informed that a decision will be taken on the charges by October 26," Speed said.

Asif's challengers for the award are England batsmen Alistair Cook, Ian Bell and left-arm spinner Monty Panesar. The final winners of the various categories of awards would be declared at a function in Mumbai on November 3. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, controversially left out from the preliminary list, once again found himself out of the running though there was a provision for the 56-strong bigger panel to add names to the original list in various categories, according to Speed.

The ICC CEO said two more categories of awards, to add to the eight for which players and teams' have already been shortlisted, the Test team of the Year and the ODI Team of the Year, would be declared at the awards function. Among those in the running for multiple honours is Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, for four awards -- Cricketer of the Year, Test and ODI Player of the Year and Captain of the Year.

Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf has remained in the hunt for two categories -- Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year -- as also ace Sri Lanka off-spinner Muthiah Muralitharan. Australian batsman Michael Hussey remained the fourth player in the running for the Cricketer of the Year award.

The short-listed players and teams are:

Cricketer of the Year: Michael Hussey (Aus), Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka), Ricky Ponting (Aus) and Mohd Yousuf (Pak).

Test Player of the Year: Muttiah Muralitharan, Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne (Aus) and Mohd Yousuf.

ODI Player of the Year: Michael Hussey, Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka), Ricky Ponting and Yuvraj Singh (Ind).

Emerging Player of the Year: Alistair Cook, Ian Bell, Monty Panesar (all Eng) and Mohd Asif (Pak).

Captain of the Year: Rahul Dravid (Ind), Ricky Ponting, Michael Vaughan (Eng) and Mahela Jayawardene.

Woman Player of the Year: Karen Rolton (Aus), Anjum Chopra (Ind) and Katherne Brunt (Eng).

Spirit of Cricket: India, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Umpire of the Year: Aleem Dar (Pak), Rudi Koertzen (SA) and Simon Taufel (Aus).

India could lift Azharuddin ban

India could lift Azharuddin ban

Azharuddin played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs between 1984-2000

Indian board officials have hinted that the life ban imposed on former captain Mohammad Azharuddin may be overturned. Azharuddin was one of only five players banned for life after a series of investigations into match-fixing conducted between 2000 and 2001.

BCCI spokesman Ratnakar Shetty said there was a feeling amongst the current regime that former board members had been too harsh in their decision. "The general opinion is that Azhar has undergone enough punishment," he said. The other players given life bans were Ajay Sharma (India), Salim Malik and Ata-ur-Rehman (Pakistan) and the late Hansie Cronje (South Africa).

South African Herschelle Gibbs was suspended for six months by his national board in 2000 after admitting he agreed to under-perform in a one-day international in exchange for money. And Australians Shane Warne and Mark Waugh were fined in 1994 after accepting money from a bookmaker for supplying pitch information during a tour to Sri Lanka, a matter which only came to light four years later.

However, International Cricket Council chief executive Malcolm Speed said care needed to be taken when comparing cases. "The point of distinction as I understand it is it was alleged and proved Azhar was actively involved in match-fixing," he added. Azharuddin, whose Test career came to an end one short of 100 appearances, has always maintained his innocence of wrongdoing.

In a magazine interview in 2001, he said: "Match-fixing simply cannot be a one-man show."This is a game which involves 11 players. If a team fails, it is spectacularly unfair to single out just one person." A softening of the BCCI's attitude towards him was highlighted last week when he was included in a list of former national team captains to be honoured at a special ceremony in November. Last week Sharad pawar the president of BCCI Favored to
lift the ban on azharudin

New images may give clues on universe´s origins

New images may give clues on universe's origins

Andromeda Galaxy The newly discovered collision of two galaxies millions of years ago, which sparked rings of fire that are still expanding, may offer new clues on the origins of the universe, astronomers said on Wednesday. New images of the Andromeda Galaxy were captured by an infrared camera aboard the Spitzer Space Telescope and are described in the science journal 'Nature'.

The pictures offer fresh insight into the ever-changing nature of galaxies, said Harvard University astrophysicist Giovanni Fazio. Fazio, the mastermind behind the Spitzer, is considered one of the world's top space pioneers. "We thought it was a plain, ordinary galaxy with two companions around it. But now we understand its structure. It will be used as a computer model to understand and study the early universe," Fazio said.

The cosmic crash is believed to have happened 210 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth, but is a relatively recent occurrence in the grander scheme of time, scientists said. "That is like this morning in cosmology terms," David Block, a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg who led the research project, told reporters at the release of the findings.

After the images from the telescope were entered into a computer model, it revealed how a small galaxy hit the centre, or "sweet spot", of its larger neighbour with such force it fired off new stars, space dust and two rings of fire. Roughly comparable to a ripple effect from a stone dropped in water, the rings continue to spread at a rate of 50 km a second.

On a clear night, the Andromeda Galaxy is visible to the naked eye as it is the closest spiral galaxy to Earth -- separated by a distance of about 2.5 million light years -- and to our own Milky Way Galaxy. Infrared images can look much deeper into the universe to show how galaxies, stars and planets were first formed and their current make-up.
