Vaidisova beats Mauresmo; injured Sharapova pulls out
At Moscow, Amelie Mauresmo was upset by Czech teenager Nicole Vaidisova and second-seeded Maria Sharapova pulled out with a foot injury, depriving the Kremlin Cup of its two top-seeded women.
Vaidisova, seeded eighth, was one game from elimination before she rallied to win 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3). It was her second consecutive victory over Mauresmo — Vaidisova also won in the fourth round of the French Open.
Today, Vaidisova will play fifth-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova, who advanced to her second consecutive semifinal with a 7-5, 6-1 win over compatriot Vera Zvonareva.
