Big B gets SMS threat for visiting Dargah and temple

Big B gets SMS threat for visiting Dargah and temple

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Amithab Bachchan has revealed that he was threatened by an unnamed person through a text message for visiting a Hindu temple and a Muslim dargah.

The 67-year-old actor had described his religious routines in an earlier blog, which led the unknown person to threaten him against doing so, but the megastar is undeterred.

"That I visit a Muslim dargah and a Hindu temple has been viciously criticized by an unknown element on my mobile. He says it is incorrect of me to do so and that I should never do it again." Amithab Bachchan wrote on his blog.

The actor had visited the Haji Ali dargah in the wee hours on Thursday and then went to a nearby temple. He also visited a small dargah on and finally went to the Siddhivinayak temple.

But despite the warning, Amithab Bachchan insists that he is unaffected by such reactions. "I am going to do it again, and shall continue to do it. And I want to see how you are going to stop me. If you have the courage and guts come and get me," he wrote.

The man has also warned the actor that his latest film `Aladin`, which hit the theatres yesterday, will not be successful because of Amithab Bachchan`s act of visiting the dargah and temple.

"If the film has merit, no force on earth will be able to stop its worth. If the film is weak and does not have merit, no force on earth shall be able to make it a success. At the cost of every film of mine failing, I am not going to change my routine," wrote Amithab Bachchan.

Legendary Umpire David Shepherd dies of cancer

Legendary Umpire David Shepherd dies of cancer

London: Legendary England umpire David Shepherd died after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday. He was 68.

Shepherd, an international umpire, officiated in 172 ODIs, three consecutive World Cup finals and 92 Test matches from 1983 to 2005. He made his international debut in the 1983 World Cup.

Only Steve Bucknor and Rudi Koertzen have stood in more Tests than Shepherd.

Shepherd was a first-class cricketer and during his 14-year-long career played 282 first class matches for Gloucestershire.

His umpiring career started in 1981 from first-class matches. His last Test appearance was in June 2005 between the West Indies and Pakistan in Kingston and his final appearance was in an ODI at The Oval in 2005.

The good-humoured Englishman was known for his superstitions - most notably his little hop when scores reached 111 or a multiple thereof. He was a favourite with the players and was respected world over.

International Cricket Council (ICC) president David Morgan expressed grief over the death of one of the greatest umpires of all time.

"David was a true gentleman of the game," said Morgan. "He was a fine player and a match official of the very highest quality. He will be remembered fondly by players, spectators and administrators who saw him as a great entertainer but also as one of the best umpires the game has ever seen," he said.

"The example he set as someone who took the art of umpiring very seriously while also enjoying what he did immensely will leave a lasting legacy for the game. He was an engaging character which meant players and other umpires were always delighted to be around him. We have lost someone whose positive influence on our great sport has been immense."

Not everybody can become a Shilpa Shetty

Not everybody can become a Shilpa Shetty

What this model was told when her skin-lightening procedure went horribly wrong at a spa which is co-owned by the star. Spa staff denies negligence

A model and aspiring actress from Dehradun trying to become fairer than she was has ended up with her face disfigured after the chemical pigmentation programme at one of the citys top spas went horribly wrong.

Gauri Khan, 22, who has done an item number in a yet-to-be-released film, The Legend Of Mayawati, and frequently models for tele-brand products, has now sent a legal notice to actress Shilpa Shetty and Chandrakiran Kaur Bawa who together began the spa venture Iosis in February last year.

Shetty, in addition to being a director and part-owner with the firm is also the ambassador for the spa and it was upon seeing her endorsement that Khan signed up for the 14-session glow and pigmentation treatment in June last year. For this she paid the spa Rs thirty-eight thousand ahead of the treatment.

However a year down the line her visage is peeling, wrinkled and covered with ugly dark spots reducing a beautiful women to move around with her face covered. In addition she claims that she has lost on all possibilities of work.

The model has registered a non-cognisable complaint at Oshiwara police station and sent a legal notice to Bawa and Shilpa Shetty claiming Rs seventeen lakh in compensation. Iosis lawyers have denied all of her charges saying that she did not take adequate care while undergoing these treatments.

Shilpa Shettys spa venture Iosis is currently under fire for a botched skin-lightening treatment

"I was always very presentable but decided to deal with the niggling issue of dull skin by going for the glow treatment at Iosis in June 2008. However within two-three months itself my skin began to deteriorate. I panicked but a doctor at Iosis kept assuring me that everything would be fine,” said Khan. “By January this year, my entire face was disfigured. When I asked the spa for my money back they flatly refused and when I pointed out about Shilpa Shetty endorsing the spa, Kiran Bawa told me, “Not everybody can become a Shilpa Shetty.” I am a model and my entire earning is dependent on my face. I told them, I dont wish to be Shilpa Shetty but please give my face back. I have lost everything.”

The spa staff, Khan alleges, told her that she would need to shell out extra money if she wanted further treatment on her disfigured face.

Khan who belongs to Dehradun says she is determined to pursue her case against the spa.

For her part Kiran Bawa the co-owner of Iosis, said, “I am aware of this person and whatever has happened is due to her own mistake. We had told her categorically that she should not go out in the sun whilst under treatment but she did not pay heed.

Apart from that she also disappeared for three months during the treatment and one fine day turned up at the spa saying that she was a poor person, and that we should please return her money. My manager refused. Now I am not someone who would cheat people for Rs thirty-eight thousand but this is the class and culture of these people. I have all the proof and pictures to prove that what I am saying is true.” However when we asked her for the pictures, her staff was unable to send us those.

A letter from a Sikh patient to his family doctor

A letter from a Sikh patient to his family doctor!

Hi Doc,

As you know, when I first got married 11 years ago, me and my wife came to see you to consult on family planning. We do not plan to have kids and we asked you for advise. You told us to try birth CONTROL methods. Tried as hard as I can, I couldn't help controlling myself from ejaculating and my wife got pregnant.
So we got our first child.

You then advised us to try ORAL contraceptives before sex. We did and yet my wife got pregnant. I failed to see how licking and sucking each other before sex can prevent her from getting pregnant!

After the birth of our second child, we went to see you again for advice. You told us my wife has to be ON the PILL and she did. Yet a few weeks later, we found out she was pregnant. I failed then to see how lying on top of the pill while having sex can prevent her from getting pregnant.

After the birth of our third child, we came to see you again. You told her to TAKE IN the PILL before sex this time. She did as you said and yet she got pregnant. I failed to see, even as we enjoyed it, how putting the pill in her you-know-where before sex can prevent her from getting pregnant.

After the birth of our fourth child, you told us to try the RHYTHM method and we followed strictly as you prescribed. It was very tough but somehow we managed. Yet my wife got pregnant again. I failed to see how dancing the rumba, cha-cha and the tango while having sex can help to prevent her from getting pregnant. So we got our fifth child.

You then suggested I put on condoms before sex. You even taught me how to put them on. Yet, my wife got pregnant again. I simply don't understand how putting French caps on my index finger as you taught me can prevent her from getting pregnant. My sixth child was a boy.

You then told me that I should have put the French caps on my “head” instead. We tried that too, and I nearly died of suffocation. I realized now which sane man would want to belief that putting condoms over your head while having sex would prevent your wife from getting pregnant, even though it nearly succeeded. So our seventh child was born.

We went to see you again. You advised us to CHANGE methods. We did, and yet my wife got pregnant and she had our eighth child. I failed to see how changing from the normal missionary method to the doggie-style and other methods can prevent her from getting pregnant.

Next you advised us to practice TOTAL ABSTINENCE. We strictly abstained from taking all foods and liquids before sex until we were so weak and exhausted.
Yet we got our ninth child 9 months later.

You then advised us to try the ALTERNATE methods of birth control. We did that too, and yet my wife got pregnant. I failed to understand how having sex on alternate days and on alternate sides can prevent her from getting pregnant. My wife cried on the alternate days which made me alternate from being very happy to very sad. My tenth child was just born yesterday.

Dear Doctor,
I no longer believe in you and your birth control methods. I have seen a lawyer and I'll be suing you for giving us false advise. You'll be hearing from my lawyers soon …
No thanks to you !!!!!

Why am I being targeted asks Asin

Why am I being targeted asks Asin

Just one film old in Bollywood, Asin Thottumkal has had more than her share of controversies. The miffed actress, who is a superstar down south, wonders why "people are targeting" her.

"Please tell me why people are targeting me? I don`t know why everybody is trying to give me a hard time. I am a newcomer, what have I done (in Bollywood)?" asked an exasperated Asin. "I am clueless why people are just interested in creating stories which are not true about me. I haven`t figured that out," she added.

"Apparently a lot of rubbish has been written about me and most of my interviews are wasted clarifying those," Asin told us in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

The 23-year-old made her Bollywood debut opposite Aamir Khan in the hit psychological action thriller "Ghajini" last year and became an overnight sensation.

She has, however, been caught up in a string of rumours -- a recent one being that the actress refused a role in Farah Khan`s next directorial venture, `Happy New Year`, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

"It was just a fabricated story. The publication retracted it in the very next issue and came out with an apology the very next day. Farah and I are friends. I am really very fond of her as she is of me. That`s about it. We haven`t talked about working together in a movie at all," Asin said, slamming the gossip.

"It was just a figment of somebody`s imagination. Farah has just started working on the script. Obviously, she hasn`t reached casting stage," she added.

There have been a controversy about Asin and her `London Dreams` co-star Salman Khan. The first rumour that appeared was that she was at loggerheads with Salman`s girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

It was reported that Katrina got upset when she heard that her beau was helping Asin find a house in Mumbai.

"I don`t even know Katrina, for god`s sake! I have worked with Salman in one film and my relationship with him has been friendly, professional. Nothing more or less than that," she asserted.

"I don`t know why people link actors who work together?"

Then came news that her father allegedly had a disliking for Salman. "What rubbish? They get along like a house on fire and are very buddy buddy with each other. They gang up against me and pull my leg. In fact, I am the odd one out when they are together. They are such good friends that despite his busy schedule, Salman painted a portrait of my dad, signed it and gifted it to him. That`s the rapport they share. I really don`t know where these stories are coming from," she said.

And what about her seasoned co-stars reportedly insisting that she ask her father not to accompany her on the sets of her movies?

"It`s not that my father`s forever hanging around on the sets. For one of the foreign schedules, he did accompany me, but that was about it. I don`t know why people tend to make out this whole big hullabaloo about bringing my dad. It`s completely fabricated nonsense," she said.

"Poor thing, he is sitting at home, minding his own business. I don`t know why he has to be dragged into controversies. It is quite annoying when somebody writes about your parents. Please leave my father out of all this.

"I am the only person in the limelight. If anybody wants to write anything true or false, write about me. But don`t drag my parents into it. It`s really not appreciated," she said.

Releasing Oct 30, `London Dreams` has been produced and directed by Vipul Shah and also stars Ajay Devgn.

Asin`s next project is Ashutosh Gowariker`s `Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey` with Abhishek Bachchan.
