Jessica Lal, a ramp model from delhi got shot by maanu Sharma on 1999. On 2006 january lower court released maanu sharma due to the improper evidences. There was an article in TOI (no one killed Jessica Lal) the very next day. It gave a insight about the killing and then TOI claims that it created the Uproar in the nation against Maanu sharma.

Why Jessica Lal is more important to Times of India?

Before entering into the issue of Jessica Lal, let me bring out some points of similar kind. Sometime during last year there was a rape happened to a manipuri gal near Delhi university in mid night. TOI published report about that followed two days then after that i never saw a cutting about that rape case.

There was a murder of German lady near international Airport New delhi. this happened in the early morning and TOI published reports about the crime for two days (with a stamp seal of This city is not safe for women) after that it got vanished.

Above mentioned points are happened to women like Jessica lal. These cases are getting investigated till now. For manipuri gal rape case atleast one person got caught but the main culprits was not. Why there is no campaign for DU rape case and that german official murder case. Why TOI haven't wrote about the inefficiency of police on these cases.

The actual reason is TOI will publish and take forward only the issues which was having involvement of celebrities, Models, bollywood related personalities and the politician involvement. TOI don't know the real people who are suffering for their day to day life. The issues of living standards of poor people will not bring money to their business but the celebrities will bring the same.

In jessica Lal case, the place where the murder happened is a high profile club and the people who got engaged in the issue are celebrities. Putting the celebrities in the paper will provide an instant jump in the readership. That is the reason why jessica Lal is more important for TOI than the DU Rape of the manipuri gal. Celebrities like Bina Ramani, Maanu, vikas, shyam munsi and others got involved in one reason or other in the jessica Lal case. If jessica is an ordinary model and her murder happened by some people with no connection to modeling, bollywood world, TOI may have not considered the Jessica Lal as a important person.
