Profile

The no-nonsense cricketer from the no-nonsense team; yes, we are going to talk about the NewZealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori. At 18, he became the youngest New Zealand test player. Pitted as the next captain, he is proceeding towards the helm in the right way; by performing well. His favorites are their arch rivals Australia. He gives much more tan his best against them. A very useful lower-middle order batsman who is capable of playing as the situation demands. Clearly an under-performer, partially due to the conditions that are available at home.

Strengths

Quickly sticking to a constant line and length s Vettori's biggest strength. He is McGrath's equivalent in slow bowling department. A cool head, both while batting and bowling in the slog overs and excellent fielding capabilities are to the advantage of the Kiwi side which traditionally has packed itself with seam bowlers and swing bowlers.

Weaknesses

Smaller grounds, shorter boundaries and un-helpful wickets in the Caribbean would do no good to Vettori. St.Lucia(New Zealand's WC base) is traditionally a good batting wicket and even if there is any help for the bolwers, it'd be only for seamers. So, in a non-spinning track, the odds are heavily stacked against Vettori.

Opportunities

Bowling in tandem with the new-sensation Jeetan Patel, Vettori might become more dangerous to the batsmen. Also, if people try to hit him harder instead of smarter, it'd easily cause their down-fall as Vettori has a immaculate control of the ball.

Threats

After year-round of cricket, Vettori is rested for the final match of the 2007 Chappell-Hadlee series with a sore back. This recurring back injury for which he was operated 4 years before might be a threat for him this time.

Expectation

He is neither expected to run through the opposition or going to be the bowler with the best runs/wicket, but he will be a great support for the likes of Shane Bond and Daryl Tuffey and especially for the captain. Vettori is a typical captain material.
