sourav Ganguly proves his worth

sourav Ganguly proves his worth

Winning an ODI and, with it, a series at home makes one feel good. The last ODI with Sri Lanka at Vishakhapatnam was one game where each player delivered with the bat, the ball and also in the fielding department. When he had to go back to learning the basics and when everyone expected him to be fighting a losing battle to regain his lost touch, there was gloom all around. But, he was determined to prove his worth to the team and he accepted the challenge head on. The result is his winning the Man of the series award.

The game in question goes to prove that cricket is a team game where everyone needs to be committed – then only can they have the satisfaction of a good outing. When the team begins to rely on a few individuals, the net result is never a pleasant one. Sehwag has at long last got some runs bur, how long will this last? With less than a month to go for the festivities to begin, we would not like to see him in a depressed mood whenever he returns to the pavilion after losing his wicket in a childish way. He has to deliver at any cost and not let his captain or the team management down.

The team comprises experience and youth – when these two factors come together, it can pay rich dividends. There are also illness that dogs the members, once they land in the Caribbean, they must acclimatize themselves to the new situation as soon as possible. They have to ensure that they are hundred percent fit during the course of the match and take care not to succumb to injuries. There have been instances when relatively weak teams have turned the tables on much stronger ones – the latest is the 10 wicket loss that the Aussies suffered at the hands of New Zealand. Earlier, Bangladesh had humbled the number one team. Therefore, complacency must not set it. The players must always be alive to the situations and not take things for granted. It is a battle for supremacy and the place at the top is reserved only for the best.
