Bollywood Film Provoked Opened on friday

Starring Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, "Provoked," a film about a British woman jailed in 1989 for killing her abusive husband, will open in the UK Friday. The film tells the story of Kiranjut Ahluwalia, who was sentenced to life in prison after she reportedly set her husband on fire, killing him. The film was based on the woman's autobiography, in which she tells of a decade of being raped and abused by her husband. Her sentence was repealed in 1992 after the Southall Black Sisters, a women's resource group, took up her case. The case helped create a new defense in court for women who were the victims of domestic violence.
