World cup 2007: Review of Cricket Teams - Bermuda

History of Cricket in Bermuda

Bermuda actually a british colony has a cricket history a long way back. Bermuda is considered as one of the oldest Cricket team in the world, Bermuda has a history of playing cricket from 1844. Bermuda played against Philadelphia during 1891 which had good cricketers during that time. During world wars and inter sountry war the sprit of cricket got dimnished in Bermuda.

Bermuda became ICC Associate during 1966 and visited England for cricket during that time. West Indies was one of the freequent team which visited Bermuda for cricket. ICC Trophy amoung Associate members was the idea of Bermuda. ICC Trophy was played by non test playing nations.

Bermuda and world cup

For Bermuda this world cup 2007 will be the first event with full members of ICC. Apart from Kenya, Zimbabwe and non test playing countries, Bermuda was not exposed. This can be considered as an inital advantage for Bermuda. Bermuda goverment invested USD 11 Million for the development and creating players from the country. This world cup will be a start for the development. People of Bermuda expects the team to breach the gap between associate member to full member. Being a Associate member of ICC bermuda has a history of playing playing big matches against non playing nations.

Cricket team of Bermuda

Bermuda cricket team was lead by Clay Smith in ICC Trophy who was a Right-hand batsman with a total of 59 matches in all sort of games. Clay smith was recently replaced by Irvine Romaine who is a notable player with a highest of 101 Runs. Irvine has a match total of 277 matches who has experience in palying twenty20 match too. With a strike rate of 64.28 (ICC Trophy 76.38) Irvine looks dangeroes for other team. Irvine Averages 33.54 in ODI version of the game.

Bermuda was coached by Augustine Logie (Gus Logie) of west Indies, a notable player during 1980's for west Indies. Bermuda largely invested its hope on Gus Logie for making the country into the full member status in ICC. due to recent losses, Bermuda team and Gus logie faces problems and were in pressure of performing and bringing the spirit back to the team.

As a team Bermuda team is not having a big ODI playing history. Bermuda has some players who played max of 12 ODI matches. Its vast experience in the ICC Trophy helps the team. Most of the players in the current team played well in the ICC trophy version of the game. There is 20 promising players in the team, still Bermuda cricket Association have not yet announced the squard for world cup. It is expected to be announced by 11th of January

Bermuda has a vast experience in playing ICC Trophy version of game which was played by all non test playing nations. It has explored the players of Zimbabwe and Kenya a lot which will create pressure for these teams in world cup. Recent games against other enterants yelided results of winning which boost the spirits of the team.

Being unexposed to the international grounds of west Indies bermuda might face some probblem when playing with other nations which explored the ground conditions. Except Kenya and Zimbabwe, Bermuda have not played cricket with any other test playing countries. This might lead to some negative impact on their game but being an enterant to world cup event will boost the game in Bermuda.

This world cup 2007 will provide a window for Bermuda to develop the game which wlost its popularity after the world war. It was the first major event with test playing nations for Bermuda. This event will be a experience gathering pilot event for Bermuda which might pose some threats to other new enterants of the game.

Bermuda suffers from Inexperience of players who played a large number of one day international games, It has player who played on 12 matches. The Injury of key players and the performance of the team in recent matches threatens the team.

Irvine Romaine - Captain of Bermuda

Irvine Romaine is a Right hand batsman and a right arm off break bowler who pose a threat to other teams. He has performed well against the non test playing countries and has a hundred to back him in the team. Irvine can even take wicket keeping gloves if required for the team. His current role for the game till now is with his bat as a batsman. He has scored 369 in 12 ODI matches and 213 in 7 matches in ICC trophy version. With a average of 33 and 35 Irvine shows consistancy in the game and Bermuda now expects more from him as a captain and also as a batsman.

Saleem Mukuddem

Saleem Mukuddem, another notable player for Bermuda who took the team to victory a lot of times. He was an all-rounder who is a right arm batsman and bowler. Saleem Mukuddem has a batting average of 30.12 with a single 50 to back him. His bowling economy is very decent with a 4.40 and took 19 wickets on ODI Version of the game. Saleem Mukuddem is one of the most experienced person in Bermuda team.

Kevin Hurdle

Kevin Hurdle, a fast bowler who helps Bermuda to get early break through in games with his fast bowling. Kevin Hurdle is a right arm fast bowler took 12 wickets in 7 games with an economy rate of 4.62. His hands become lethal if there is a ball in it and Kevin's game is getting better in each and every game that he playes.

Even though Bermuda do not have very experienced cricketers, they have consistant cricketers in the team. It is shown in their ODI partnerships. The players have consistant partnership records mostly against all non test playing nations

with the statistcs, there is a strong middle order which was strngthened more by Irvine, Jones, Mukuddem. Having a good partnerships in One day internationals is more important. As the game progress the team must develop some outstanding partnerships which can lead the team to victory.

Bermuda which might be a dark horse amoung the non test playing nations, kept a big jump from an associate member team which plays a major ICC Event. Like kenya it might create ripples in the game by its skills in batting and bowling.
