Gibbs to face disciplinary hearing

Gibbs to face disciplinary hearing

South Africa will hold a disciplinary hearing into the incident of Herschelle Gibbs' racist comments later on Tuesday.

The hearing comes a day after the batsman was handed a two Test ban by the ICC for violating the player's code of conduct.

Gibbs had referred to Pakistani fans and cricketers as animals during the Centurion Test, a comment that was picked up by the stump microphones.

Smith speaks

Meanwhile, South African captain Graeme Smith, said that while he does not condone Gibbs' comments, the remarks came in the face of extreme provocation from Pakistani supporters.

He said there were times when he had to intervene to protect his team members who were the target of racial abuse from the fans.

Smith also said that television companies need to be held responsible for when audio from stump mikes goes on air, which in his opinion is a breach of contract.
