Astronomers find distant, fluffy planet

Astronomers find distant, fluffy planet WASHINGTON - The largest planet ever found orbiting another star is so puffy it would float on water, astronomers said Thursday. The newly discovered planet, dubbed HAT-P-1, is both the largest and least dense of the nearly 200 worlds astronomers have found outside our own solar system.

HAT-P-1 orbits one of a pair of stars in the constellation Lacerta, about 450 light-years from Earth.

"This new planet, if you could imagine putting it in a cosmic water glass, it would float," said Robert Noyes, a research astrophysicist with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The planet, a gas giant, is probably a puffed up ball of hydrogen and helium.

HAT-P-1 is an oddball planet, since it orbits its parent star at just one-twentieth of the distance that separates Earth from our own sun. While Earth takes a year to orbit the sun, the newly found planet whips around its star once every 4.5 days.

Astronomers believe HAT-P-1 may belong to an entirely new class of planets, along with a second, smaller distant world that's also puffier than theories would have predicted, Noyes said.

Astronomers used a network of telescopes in Arizona and Hawaii to discover the planet. Its parent star is too faint to see with the naked eye but can be spied with binoculars.

Maternity Bras & Nipple Care

Maternity Bras & Nipple Care

While nursing, it is important to wear a bra that will give proper support to your breasts, as they grow fuller and heavier with milk. Without a proper maternity bra, the breasts tend to sag. Also feeding the baby becomes unnecessarily complicated if you are unable to quickly and completely put her to the breast.

An ordinary, properly fitting bra is enough during pregnancy. But immediately after delivery, you need to buy good maternity bras, which not only offer proper support but are convenient for feeding i.e. which are either front opening or have flaps that can be unfastened quickly.

  • Use a bra that exposes the whole breast for feeding. If only the nipples are exposed, there may be problems with feeding.
  • The fitting should be just right
  • too tight a fit can cause blocked milk ducts.
  • too loose or improper support may cause sagging of the breast.
  • Try and use a cotton bra which allows the skin to breathe and prevents a build up of perspiration.
  • Try for a bra with nursing pads to absorb excess milk.
  • Wash bras well and dry them in the sun for proper hygiene.

Nipple Care - Nipples vary in sensitivity. Constant friction can make the nipples dry and flaky while continual dampness from the dripping milk can make them prone to fungal infections. You may find, that to avoid soreness, you have to be extra careful throughout the breast-feeding period, but in the majority of cases they adapt sufficiently (after a few weeks of care) to look after themselves.

  • Wash nipples with plain water, without using soap. Soap tends to dry out the nipples even more.
  • Always blot off the water gently. Don't rub hard.
  • Touch only with clean hands.
  • Keep leaking nipples dry with nursing pads or bits of cotton covered with muslin. Avoid plastic or synthetic pads as these exclude air.
  • After each feed dry the nipples in air.
  • Do not put cold cream or medicated cream on the nipples unless recommended by your doctor.
Nipples have built in lubrication from tiny glands around the areola. This is more effective and more hygienic than any cream. Soap may remove this protection
  • Do not massage or scrub the nipples.
  • Don't pull a suckling baby off the nipple. Wait till he stops or pauses or insert a gentle finger in the corner of his mouth.
  • Don't let the baby suck on the nipple itself but always on the areola.
  • At the first sign or soreness, adjust your position so that a different part of the nipple takes the main stress.
  • Don't give up feeding. If there is too much pain, feed the baby from the other breast for a while.
  • At the first sign of trouble consult your doctor

Turning strangers into friends

Turning strangers into friends

Do you find it easy to make conversation with new people you've just met? Or does the thought of trying to make conversation with someone new make you break out in a cold sweat?

If you don't feel comfortable making casual conversation with new people you have just met, you will find it harder to make new friends. You will also find it more difficult to fit in at your work place.

One of the most common reasons that people have difficulty making conversation with someone they don't know very well is because they put too much pressure on themselves.

Many people think that whenever they meet someone new, they have to say something really interesting and brilliant, right from the beginning. Even before they know the other person very well. They think they have to really put up a great performance to impress the other person.

They don't just let themselves just be ordinary, and talk about fairly ordinary things.

Here's a very important lesson to learn about making conversation with people: Insisting to yourself that you have to be brilliant and dazzling in all your conversations will not win you new friends. It will not even improve your conversational performance.

When you think to yourself that you have to perform perfectly in all your conversations, you will actually make your performance worse! You will become too nervous and awkward, and you'll be too focused on your own performance. You won't be focused on getting to know the new person you've just met.

New people that you meet are not looking for brilliant conversation. What they are looking for is someone who will be comfortable to be with, and fun to talk to. But most of all they are looking for someone who seems interested in them!

For conversational success, it's more important to be a good listener than to be a great talker.

When you are just starting out talking to a person, you can use your immediate surroundings or the weather as a basis for a few starting remarks.

If you want to know that person better, move on quickly to a slightly more personal level of discussion. Ask a few basic questions and offer a little bit of information about yourself, your likes or dislikes, or your opinion on some neutral topic. Notice whether the other person lights up with interest about any topics you mention.

This can give you new interesting areas for both of you to discuss.

Even if it seems somewhat difficult and awkward for you in the beginning, develop the habit of introducing yourself to others as soon as you meet them, or very early in the conversation. Otherwise you could spend hours talking and neither of you will have any idea of what your conversation partner's name is.

Socially confident people introduce themselves to their conversation partners very early in the course of conversation. People who are shy or socially awkward tend to introduce themselves much later, or not at all. Shy people often wait until someone asks for their name, but they rarely volunteer to give it, and they rarely ask the other person what their name is.

Sometimes it is easier to ask the other person for their name first, and then offer your own. If you practice the new behavior enough times, it will eventually become second nature to you. With enough practice, it will no longer seem intimidating to take a more active role.

The important thing is simply to develop the habit of starting simple little conversations with lots more people. Look for the interests you have in common.

If you want to be more socially successful, take the initiative to introduce yourself to new people and to get the conversational ball rolling. Don't hold back and let other people make all the first moves. If you have been holding back, waiting for other people to do all the work in the relationship, you are shirking your responsibility in making the relationship move forward.

Show interest in other people. Smile. Listen. Look at the person you're talking with.

Whenever you start talking to new people, don't strive for great dialogue, or the perfect opening lines. Just get started, and keep on talking. Practice making conversations with a lot of new people. You will eventually get better at it.

Don't decide that you're a failure if the encounter doesn't turn into a great friendship. After all, the truth is that the majority of conversations between new people don't really go anywhere. That's all right. It takes time and effort to turn casual strangers into friends.

Remember, that all of the friends you already have were strangers to you at one point in your life. Until you started talking and found out what you have in common.

Learning how to make conversation with people you don't know well can be the first step in making many new friends.

Asking Them Out

Asking Them Out

If you like some one you may have to ask them for a date. For men this is standard practise and for women, this process is becoming increasingly common. If you are thinking of asking someone on a date consider the following quick dating tips:

1. Why are you asking them out, is it for the right reasons and what do you expect as a result of them saying yes or no?

2. Be prepared that the person you ask may say no and in which case do not take the rejection personally.

3. When asking someone out choose your moment carefully and practise what you might say in advance so that you don't appear tongue-tied.

4. If the person you ask says yes, ensure you already have thought of a place, date and time for the date so that you display signs of thoughfulness.

5. Be prepared for the person asking why you want to date them so that you are able to flatter and create a sense of trust immediately. People can be wary and they may want to know some reasosn behind your request. Better, anticipate this by saying "would you like to come to dinner, I have always thought you are great fun..".

6. Make sure that your request for a date does not pressurize the person in any way. If they want to think about it, let them. But don't chase.

7. Make sure that when you ask someone on a date you smile and keep things fun and happy. Being confident and smiley will elicit a far more positive response.

8. Always have an alternative date and time or location in mind should the person be unsure of their diary. Giving a person a choice is often a marketing masterstroke.

9. If the person says no, don't chase for a reason, simply move on. They may think about things and get back to you with a yes response later.

10. If you ask someone on a date, make sure that you actually intend to go through with it. Standing people up is not allowed.

11. If you are being asked out don't play games. If you need time to consider the offer then say so. If you want to say no, say no. But do not keep someone hanging on for no reason. You wouldn't like the situation if it was reversed.

12. Try to avoid dutch-courage such as using alcohol to boost your courage levels as this will often backfire.

13. Don't ask someone out when they are in a group of friends. Timing is everything.
