Saif ali khan Kareena kapoor film in payments controversy

Karan Johar`s latest production seems to have come into some trouble. Some crew members in Philadelphia, USA, where the film was shot last winter, have complained that they have not received payment even after the shoot ended. Directed by first-timer Rensil D`Silva (who wrote Aks [Images] and Rang De Basanti [Images]), the yet-untitled film stars Saif Ali Khan [Images] and Kareena Kapoor [Images]. It was shot in Philadelphia in November and December, and 1,000 crew members and extras were hired. Johar`s Dharma Productions enlisted an Australian company called Swish Group Limited to help with the shoot.

The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper reported that according to the workers, the payment of $100,000 had bounced and that Swish was not responding to their inquiries.

Apoorva Mehta, CEO, Dharma Productions, told rediff.com, "They (Swish ) have an accounting problem at the moment. They have confirmed receiving the money from our side. They said they will settle the due in two or three weeks. They have given us a confirmation letter also."

Cary P Stynes, Managing Director, Swish Group Limited, forwarded his reply to Dharma Productions to this reporter via e-mail, where he admitted to the delay in payments.

`We are in the process of resolving all matters in relation to the payment to crew members and vendors appointed by us for services in relation to your film, currently under production,` the e-mail stated. `We have not been able to do so, as the accounts for the film are yet to be finalised. We have given this matter priority over all other accounting issues and our accounts team are working around the clock to sort out the issues that we have had. We are still reconciling the exact amounts of what is owed to various people who worked on the film.`

Styles further stated that payments will be made within the next 10 to 15 days.

`We once again confirm that we have received full and complete payment from you of all amounts requested by us to date. We thank you for your patience and we have no objection if you share this letter with the crew members, vendors and other stakeholders. Apologies again for any inconvenience or embarrassment caused,` Stynes concluded.

Ahimsa useless against terror: Dalailama

The Dalai Lama, a lifelong champion of non-violence today candidly stated that terrorism cannot be tackled by applying the principle of ahimsa as the minds of terrorists are closed.

"It is difficult to tackle terrorism with non-violence," the Tibetan spiritual leader said delivering the Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Lecture here. He termed terrorism as the worst kind of violence which is not carried out by mad people but by those who are very brilliant. "They (terrorists) are very brilliant and educated...But a strong ill feeling is bred in them. Their minds are closed," the Dalai Lama said. He said the only way to tackle terrorism is through prevention.

The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile left the audience stunned when he said "I love President Bush." He went on to add how he and the US President instantly struck a chord in their first meeting unlike politicians who take a while to develop close ties. "I told him `I love you but some of your policies I oppose`," said the spiritual leader to a loud round of applause from the audience which included Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, Election Commissioner Navin Chawla and several ministers, diplomats and artistes.

The actress is bent on looking convincing in the role and had even invited a Kashmiri woman to Mumbai in order to study her body language, speech patterns and mannerisms to get into the character.



`I think I`m going to be more keen on getting it right than the director. I`ve never done a film like this before. The role requires me to be someone else altogether. `And for this I needed help. I wanted to play the character the way girls really are today in Kashmir. Very basic,` explained the actress, who is dating Bollywood hunk John Abraham.



Unlike other actors, Bipasha is not very keen to try her luck in Hollywood. `No filmmakers of Hollywood are willing to sign any Bollywood actor without a screen test apart from Aishwarya Rai. They seem to know no Hindi film actors, not even Amitabh Bachchan.



`I found out that I will have to start again (there) from scratch like screen tests and other tantrums. They treat you like a newcomer. So I`ve decided to stay in Mumbai and be the `queen` here,` she had said.

The argument left the `Mean Girls` star in such an emotional state that flight attendants on the plane "asked her whether she`d like to disembark." The duo were headed back to Los Angeles after spending New Year`s in Miami, where Ronson had a DJ gig at South Beach club Mansion, reports the New York Daily News.

This is the latest in a string of public fights for the duo, who also had an epic confrontation at Ronson`s Hollywood Hills home just before Christmas, waking the neighbors at 4 a.m. with sounds of screaming and breaking glass.

Manyata goes on piligrimage without Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt`s wife Manyata has reportedly left for the famed Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir to pray, but minus her husband. She has left behind Sanjay to spend time with his three best friends, who live in different parts of the world. They were in Mumbai for the New Year and Sanjay was keen to spend some more time with them.

`Manyata left for Vaishno Devi after their New Year`s party with some girl pals for three days. Initially, Sanjay, who never says no to his wife, agreed to come along. But then she saw his heart was set on enjoying the time he had with his buddies whom he rarely gets to see because of his schedules,` said a source close to the couple told IANS.

`These guys have been his closest friends from childhood and are no part of the film industry. Though he has many close friends in the industry like Suniel Shetty and Bunty Walia, these three non-film friends are Sanjay`s closest confidantes. He tries to get them to come over whenever he has some time off,` added the source.

Manyata didn`t have the heart to drag her husband away to Vaishno Devi. `Though she really wanted her husband to accompany her, she didn`t want to deprive him of his precious time with his pals. She decided to make this trip to Vaishno Devi an all-girls` thing while Sanjay chilled out with buddies, watched films and played games, back home before he resumes shooting later this week.` The year is a decisive year for the Dutts, Sanjay Dutt Productions is about to take off and they`ve signed some of the best directors in the business.

`Ideally, Manyata would`ve wanted her husband to pray. But since he was in the mood to play, she let him be. There`s a perception that she has been alienating her husband from his pals. Manyata wants to end that.` Incidentally, the Dutts` New Year party was not a low-key affair by choice. `They had invited everyone, but hardly anyone was in town,` said the source.
